Last Rites For Mrs. R. C. West Held Wednesday

The passing of Mrs. Robert Cullen West on Tuesday morning, August 17th, 1943, brought grief to this entire community. Her unselfish spirit had endeared her to the hearts of all who knew her for her prime thought in life was to administer unto and render service to others. A true friend, a Useful and influential citizen and devoted church member has gone to her reward.

For many months she had been ill and when death was battling for mastery over life, she maintained a cheerful demeanor and a courageous fortitude. She was surrounded by a devoted husband, loving sons and a host of relatives and friends to whom she was passionately attached. And, yet, in spite of it all, it was an unequal struggle and death became the conqueror.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning, August 18th, at 9:30 o'clock with her pastor, the Rev. J. H. Holder, assisted by District Superintendent Rev. R. G. Lord of Greenwood officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Aberdeen, Miss., with Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were W. G. Baker, David Webster, M. V. Branch, F. L. Eubanks,W. L. Shelton, L. A. Blackston, John Dantzler, Charles Jaco and J. T. Wilson.

She is survived by her husband, R. C. West; two sons, R. C. West, Jr., of Kosciusko and H. Y. West of Yazoo City; a niece, Mrs. Joe Morgan of Aberdeen; and two nephews, Lieutenant Hugh Young, U. S. N., and Sergeant Murphy Young, U. S. Army, both of Aberdeen.

Mrs. West was the daughter of Major and Martha Andrews Young pioneer settlers of Monroe County, Mississippi. She moved from Aberdeen to Winona with her husband about thirty years ago and has lived in Winona during that time.
