Mrs. Lula Phillips, 86, of 580 Magazine St. died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday in Hotel Dieu Hospital. A native of Warren, Tex., she had lived in Beaumont 55 years. She was the widow of the late Polk Phillips. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rachel Melanson and Mrs. Bertie Woodring of Beaumont; a brother, the Rev. D.D. Swearingen of Warren; three grandchildren, Mrs. Albert Richards, Edwin J. Chevalier and Melvin Woodring, all of Beaumont, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Broussard Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Monroe D. Boyett, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
