Joy Nell Allen Mogford peacefully left this world on December 6, 2013, to rejoin her beloved husband, Wilford Leon Mogford. Nell was born May 21, 1930, on her family's ranch in Kendall County along the banks of Allen Creek to Robert Norris Allen, Sr. and Florence Alice Babin Allen. She was educated in the one room school house at Welfare until it closed; afterwards she attended school for two years in Staples, TX; and then attended and graduated from Boerne High School as the Class of 1947's salutatorian. After high school she attended Southwest Teachers' College (now Texas State University) in San Marcos where she met the love of her life and they were married on August 22, 1948, at the Comfort Baptist Church. In 1951, after earning her BA in Business, Nell and Leon settled in San Antonio. There Nell worked at Union State Bank and then the Richard Gill Company followed by her greatest job in life: being a mother to their daughters, Patti and GayLynn. Nell was proof that "you can take the girl out of the country but you can never take the country out of the girl". She and Leon lived out the latter years of their lives working together at their ranch. Jewels and material possessions were never important to her but her bright blue eyes would sparkle when talking about her family or the wildlife and livestock at the ranch. A good rain, also, made her extremely happy. Leon passed away suddenly on July 3, 2008, seven weeks shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Just as he always took care of his beautiful bride on earth we know that he will be waiting at the Heavenly Gates alongside the Lord to welcome her to her eternal home. Nell leaves behind her daughters, Patti Moreno-Fergusson and her husband Gabriel of Boerne; GayLynn Mogford-Arellano and her husband C.B. of San Antonio; her granddaughter, Andrea Nell Moreno of Lubbock; her brother, Robert Norris Allen, Jr. and wife Annie Bell of Port O'Connor; seven nephews and three nieces. Services will held 7:00 PM December 15, 2013 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North www.missionparks.com 210-349-1414 followed by burial 11:00 AM December 16, 2013 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Baptist Children and Family Services 1506 Bexar Crossing San Antonio, TX 78232 or www.bcfs.net.
