Gene "L." Atkinson was born on March 27, 1924, in Francis, Utah, the fourth of nine children born to James L. Atkinson and Martha Ellen Corbett.

He spent his youth in the Kamas Utah Valley, later moving to Emmett after serving in the U.S. Navy. In Emmett he met and married his eternal sweetheart, Evelyn Whiteley in the Salt Lake Temple. He loved his dogs, horses, hunting, fishing, farming and anything JOHN DEERE. He touched many lives, was a hard working man who enjoyed teasing others and caring for everyone.

Above all he loved his family. He served as a ward clerk, High Priest Group Leader and missionary as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He will be remembered for his generosity and his ability to help anyone in need.

On a quiet snowy morning, Dec. 7, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family he returned to his Heavenly Father, rejoining his wife, Evelyn of 60 years, "going Home for Christmas."

He was a devoted father to seven children: Larry (Connie) Atkinson of Emmett, Janet (Vaughn) Youngberg of Weiser, Dale Atkinson of Meridian, Karla (Steve) Kimball of Emmett and Kristen (Gary) Jumper of Bluffdale, Utah; and he has 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his baby sister, Carma Marshall of Jacksonville, Ore.

In January 2007, he married Violet Corbit Harris, residing with her in Emmett until his death.
