In the 1920s he was married to Madge Loobey and to this union were born two sons, Cameron and Paul E. Christensen. Mr. Christensen was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Eagle Grove for several years and also did cement work.
On Nov. 21, 1953, he was united in marriage with Ruth Benson Anders at Clarion and the couple lived in Eagle Grove. Since the 1950s he was employed as a cement finisher and plasterer and had been a member of the Cement Finishers Union of America for over 30 years. He was a long time member of the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Christensen of Eagle Grove; a son, Paul E Christensen of Loyal, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Alan (Margie Little) Sabotka of Slater; a step-son, Paul Cochran of Menehga, Minn., and three step-daughters, Dot, Mrs. Bill Quintus of rural Eagle Grove; Carole Joseph of Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Joy Ubben of Webster City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren; a sister, Erna Arsenoff of the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove, and a brother, Leonard Christensen of St. Ansgar. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cameron Christensen; a step-daughter, Colleen Smith; and four sisters.
He died April 20, 1984 at the Clarion Care Center in Clarion where he had been a resident for the past five weeks, suffering from cancer and a stroke. He attained the age of 80 years, seven months and 22 days.
Services for Carl R (Red) Christensen of Eagle Grove were held on Tuesday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev Oscar Laaveg officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Monday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
