A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Living Room of Friends Homes West at 6100 W. Friendly Ave.
Mr. Herring was a native of Warsaw. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the First Experimental Guided Missiles Group of First Experimental Air Service Squadron at Eglin Field, Fla. His career was in sales, both in retail and as a manufacturer's representative, in both Carolinas and New Jersey. He was a member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church and a member of the Inquirer's Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosa Joseph Herring of the home; one son, Rod James Herring and wife Candace of Houlton, Maine; daughter, Nancy Herring Formy-Duval and husband Tracy of Wilmington; grandchildren, Ann Marie, Alan Thomas Formy-Duval and wife Kattiya, Jami Herring Bradshaw and husband Peter; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Herring Jones of Sumter, S.C.; and a cousin, Mrs. Virginia Watson of Greensboro; two nieces, three great-nieces, and four great-nephews.
Memorials may be made to Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 803 16th Street, Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Friends Homes West, Residents Assistance Fund, 6100 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410.
The family will receive friends following the service.
