Mary Ellen Mays, 87, of Rt. 3, Oneida, passed away at the Scott County Hospital on Tuesday, July 17. She was the daughter of the late William Lowe and the late Serelda Hembree, and was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Mays. She was a member of the West Oneida Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter: Elzada Manis of Rogersville; three sons: Fred Griffith of Helenwood, H. Clay Mays of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Roscoe Mays of Oneida; one brother, Lindsay Hembree of Philadelphia, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted from the West Oneida Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Friday, with Rev. Harold Dean Ross and Rev. Charlie Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the Possum Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the West-Collins & Murley Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from now till time for service.
