On October 13, 2005 of Kensington, MD. Beloved husband of Elise Curry Brownell; beloved father of daughter (son-in-law), son (daughter-in-law), daughter (son-in-law). He is also survived by his three granddaughters and (grandson-in-law); two great-grandchildren; brother, James F. Brownell. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dorothy M. Brownell. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at JOSEPH GAWLER'S SONS, INC., 5130 Wisconsin Ave., N.W. (corner of Harrison St., N.W.), Washington, DC, 20016. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 4001 Franklin St., Kensington, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iron Duke Office, Attn; Jack Winters, Box 90542, Duke University, Durham, NC 27708; Montgomery Hospice or Christ Episcopal Church, Kensington, MD, 20895.

Robert W. Brownell, 86, one of the foremost golfers and administrators in the Middle Atlantic region, has died after a brief illness.

Mr. Brownell, who died Oct. 14 [13] in Kensington, won 11 District of Columbia amateur championships, including 10 in the mid-1950s, This came out to a 58-match winning streak, an unprecedented feat at the regional level in the U.S. In addition, he also won five Middle Atlantic Amateur tournaments, one Maryland State Amateur tournament and one Maryland Open.

Mr. Brownell was one of only three administrators to serve as president of the three area gold associations: D.C. (now Metropolitan), Maryland State and Maryland Atlantic.
