Gertrude Seaman "Trudy" Lynch passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, shortly after her 97th birthday on Jan. 1. She had resided in the Caddo Nursing Home in Durant, Okla., for the last 3 ½….. Prior to moving to the nursing home, Mrs. Lynch had been a resident of Grant County since 1971. She and her husband, Eric M. Lynch, had moved back to the Silver City area with their son, Larry W. Lynch, and his wife, Mary Kimmick Lynch, together with long- time family friends, Lane and Sadie Fanning. The Lynches and the Fannings established and ran Foothills Cycles for the next 11 years. The Lynch family had lived and worked in this area prior to and during World War II. Mary Lynch was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Kimmick. Larry and Mary Lynch were graduates of Silver High School. Helen Lynch was also a graduate of Silver High School and attended Western when it was first a state teachers college. The love of New Mexico and Grant County had drawn them and their longtime family friends, Sadie and Lane Fanning, back to New Mexico. Memorial services will be held today in Durant. She will be transported to Silver City for interment next to her husband in Memory Lane Cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Bob Reese at Memory Lane Cemetery on Thursday at 1 p.m. Mrs. Lynch is immediately survived by her son and daughter. Larry W. Lynch and his wife, Mary, are from Silver City. Their children are Elizabeth Lynch of Silver City, Mary Greer of Carrizozo, and Eric R. Lynch of Capitan. Helen Lynch Martin and her husband, Cleo A. Martin, are from Caddo, Okla. Their children are Lynette Parmley of Oklahoma City, Dana Blackwell of Denison, Texas, and Dion Williams of Caddo. Mrs. Lynch is also survived by 11 great-grand-children and nine great- great-grandchildren. At the time of Eric Lynch's death, the couple had been married for 73 years. In her early years, Gertrude Lynch trained as a seamstress and sewed for the public for many years. The first time Gertrude and Eric Lynch came to Grant County, it was by covered wagon. They lived in New Mexico, California, and Oregon and back to Mineral Wells, Texas, and the Palo Pinto County area, which had been settled by both of their families.
