Mr. Watson was the president of Alton Lime & Cement Company, the leading provider of limestone in the area. He held the contract to supply limestone for many railroad projects, including the Merchants Bridge & Union Station in St. Louis. He also erected the Alton Water Works.

Henry had two children, Emma F. (d. 1865) and George F. (Fred, 1862-1941), with his first wife Fanny (1839-1863) who he married in 1858.
