Houston Alton Jones
Houston Alton Jones, 94, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, June 10, 2004. He was born Aug. 19, 1909, in Shady Grove and was the son of Charles Baxter Jones and Lula Bagwell Jones.
He was a member of United Methodist Church. He was educated at Shady Grove School, now relocated and preserved as a historic site. He had many professional ventures, including machinery and tool making, agricultural lime plant management, saw mill management, home construction and manufacturing. He was involved in all aspects of road development for Baxter County during the 1930s. He worked on the historic Cotter and Henderson bridges. He was the owner/operator of H.A. Jones Woodproducts in Mountain Home and later Pine Bluff. In 1988, he was inducted into the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club Hall of Fame as a lifetime member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Baxter Jones and Lula Bagwell Jones; two brothers, James Harlan Jones and John Howard Jones; and his wife, Ruby Huber Jones.
He is survived by his son, Royce Jones of Pine Bluff and Bruno; his grandchildren, Karen Jones Satterfield and Thomas Jones of Little Rock; and his great-granddaughter, Julia Kennedy Satterfield of Little Rock.
A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Roller Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Frances of Fairview United Methodist Church officiating. Private interment will follow on a later date at Mountain Home Cemetery.
