Agnes Marie Arvidson, of Chesterton, died at her home Monday, May 31, 2004 at the age of 86 years and six days.

She was born May 25, 1918 on the family farm in Douglas Twp., N.D. which had been homesteaded by her father in 1902. Her German parents, John F. and Marie (Wollmuth) Brickner preceded her in death.

On Oct. 11, 1941 she married Swedish immigrant, Adolph Arvidson, who preceded her in death, Sept. 23, 1976. They were married at Bethel Lutheran Church, Miller. She lived at the Arvidson homeplace for 62 1/2 years.

She is survived by a son, John (Helen) Arvidson of Westville; two daughters, Marilyn Arvidson of Chesterton and JoAnn (Curtis) Johnson of St. Louis Park, Minn.; five grandchildren, Paul Arvidson of Valparaiso, Laura (Matthew) Fields of Anderson, Jenny, Annie and Christy Johnson of St. Louis Park, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lucy Fields; a brother, Rudolph (Mae) Brickner of Douglas, N.D.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Ervin Brickner of Garrison, N.D.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Lutheran Church and was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church for many years. Her recent church home was Liberty
Bible Church.

She graduated from Douglas High School and at the age of 19, came to relatives in the Chesterton (Old Porter) area and then worked in Chicago for three years. She was a homemaker and a member of the neighborhood homemakers group, which was instrumental in beginning the Westport Community Club. She was a member of Sons of Norway and a volunteer at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Chellberg Farm for the past 13 years.

She had a deep love for her family and valued her contacts with extended family and friends. Her Christian faith has been a testimony to many.

A funeral service, Pastor Bill Jones officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton and Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service at Liberty Bible Church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Memorials may be given to The Gideons International for Bible distribution or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc.
