Much of this information comes from A. Bingham Seibold, III and Florence Stevenson. I am the transcriber.

They were from Barrhead, Neilston Parish, Renfrewshire, Scotland and there are records there.

Last Will and Testament of James Adam, Senior. The instrument is dated 29 April 1850 and reflects a filing date of 18 June 1851. The document was obtained from Randolph County Court House by Florence Stevenson.

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JAMES ADAMS SENIOR

I James Adam of the county of Randolph and the state of Illinois being of sound mind and memory and sensible of the uncertainty of life and being desireous to arrange my worldly affairs and make a final disposition of all my worldly Estate both real and personal not heretofore disposed of do hereby make ordain and establish this my last will and Testament in manner following. I have already disposed of my real estate situate in the state of Illinois by deeds of conveyance duly executed none bearing the date of this my Will and Testament in fact most if not all of them bear said date and so the residue of my estate.

First. I will and desire that my funeral expenses all the expenses of my last sickness and the expense of the probating of my will and the administration of my estate and the execution of my will as also every just debts which I may owe be first paid.

Secondly. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catherine Adam all my household and kitchen furniture of every name or description whatever and all the interest and income arising and to arise during her natural life on an our of all the moneys owned by me or due and owing to me at the time of my death or on an amount of mo???ual thereunto bearing like rate of interest as my be payable to me at the time of my death my said wife Catherine is also to have as her share in absolute property a sum and sums of interest money which is or shall be due and unpaid to me at the time of my death.

Thirdly. I give an bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Howie the sum of Fifty dollars in full of her share and right of her in and to my estate.

Fourthly. I give an bequeath unto my daughter Agnes Smith the sum of one thousand dollars in full of the share and right of her in and to my estate.

Fifthly. I give an bequeath to my son James Adam Junior the sum of Five hundred dollars to be paid out of the principal monies secured to me by any means securities or instrument of writing or man or manner whatever when collected by my executor.

Sixthly. I give an bequeath and devise unto my son David Adam of said county of Randolph and to his heirs and assigns forever all the rest and residue of my estate with real and personal wheresoever situate and being and whether in action or in possession and I so hereby constitute and appoint my friend Richard B. Servant ??? of the town of Chester in the state of Illinois to be the sole executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have herein to subscribed my name and affixed my seal on this 29th day of April in the year of our lord 1850 in presence of the witnesses whose names are hereunto subscribed. Subscribed and declared by the said James Adam to be his last will and testament in presence of us two have at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names hereto as witnesses.

I James Adam do hereby revoke all toher wills and testament which I may at time hereto have made except the one last above and on this that of paper was. In testimony where of I have hereto set my hand and seal on this 29th day of April AD1850.

Subscribed and delcared and sealed in the presence of us who at the request of the said testator James Adam have hereto subscribed our names in his presence and in the presence of each other Interlined between the 2nd and 3rd lines from the bottom made before signing

Lynn Watts had a birthdate for both he and Catherine Carlew of 1780.

film from Salt Lake City - "Neilston Parish, Renfrewshire, Scotland. #0102070 - Births and Bap." (1688-1819). She found 2 daughters born to James/Catherine which presumably never made it to Illinois.

"James Adam and Katherine Curlaw (sic) spouses of Barrhead had dau born 23 Sept bap 8 Oct and named Katherine" (no specific church, just Neilston Parish)

Also on the same film "Proclamation to marriage in 1804, Neilston Parish"

"James Adam this parish and Katherine Carlaw in Glasgow gave up their names for proclamation in order to marriage April 21 and gave to the poor L1-2-6"

No apparent records of births of other children.

She did find in the Neilston Parish records the marriage of Margaret Adam to John Howie (1838) and the birth of their son as was Agnes Adam/Francis Smith marriage (1834 - Neilston Parish) and the births of their 4 children (1836, 1838, 1840, 1842).
