DEATH CALLS JAMES RYAN-
Another of Custer county's long-time residents, James Albert Ryan, answered the call of the Dark Angel at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Stella Byrne, on November 19, 1937, at the age of eighty-two years. Mr. Ryan had been a resident of Colorado since 1880, being one of the county's early settlers. He was born in Virginia May 9, 1855, moving to Missouri with his parents in 1860, where he resided until 1880, when he married Miss Alice Case and moved to Colorado with his bride. Of this union were born eight children, four of whom preceded Mr. Ryan in death. One son, Leon Ryan of Cañon City, and three daughters, Mrs. Zona Neilson of Pueblo, Mrs. Fannie Davis of Corona, California, and Mrs. Stella Byrne of Silver Cliff, a sister in Missouri and seven grandchildren plus a host of friends mourn the passing of Mr. Ryan. Funeral services were held at the Menzel Funeral Home Monday afternoon, with Rev. Potter officiating. The pallbearers were Tim Ryan, Ernest Lee, Irvin Dirrim, Lee Newport, William Schellerberg and James Reilly. Interment was in Silver Cliff cemetery.
