Helen E. Anderson Christianson, 89, of Morris, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, April 4, 1995 at the Stevens Community Medical Center at Morris.

Helen was born October 29, 1905 at Holmes City to the late Peter and Anna (Oberg) Hjelm. It was at Holmes City that Helen grew up and received her education. Following school, Helen worked at her father's telephone company as an operator. On November 8, 1930, she married Walter Anderson at LaGrande Township and for the first six years the couple farmed in Douglas County. Over the next several years they relocated to various places. After the death of her husband in the fall of 1946 Helen settled in Ashby where she worked as a baker and waitress. On March 26, 1953, she married Bert Christianson at Fergus Falls. Following their marriage she moved to Evansville where they resided until 1976. Bert died June 17, 1980 and after his death Helen moved to Morris where she has lived since. Helen enjoyed keeping the Swedish family traditions alive by serving lutefisk, meatballs and potato sausage at holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed reading, fishing and bowling. Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church of Morris.

Helen is survived by her son Russell Anderson of Morris; stepson Roger Christianson and wife Phyllis of Osakis; daughters: Marilyn Conrad and husband Donald of St. Cloud; Dorothy Waa and husband Loren of Louisville, Kentucky; stepdaughter Janice Burstyn and husband Edward of East Aurora, New York; brother Perry Hjelm and wife Ilene of Holmes City; sisters: Arvie Hanson of Prior Lake, Mildred Wagenius of Holmes City; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Anna; two sons: Dennis and Bryan Anderson; seven brothers: Roy, Woodrow, Leslie, Norman, Chester, Marvin and Vincent; two sisters: Hildur Anderson and Ann Nelson and granddaughter Karen Christianson.

Funeral services were on Friday, April 7, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church at Morris with Rev. Dean Larson officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery at Holmes City with Brian, Corey and Christopher Anderson and Steve, David and Mark Conrad serving as active pallbearers. Andre Conrad, Tim Christianson, Keith Waa and Daniel Burstyn were honorary pallbearers. Arrangements were with the Pedersen Funeral Home, Morris.
