During Operation TAYLOR COMMON at 1430 Hours a CH-46 went down due to mechanical failure in the vicinity of Hill 243 near the Thuong Duc, Duc Duc District border in Quang Nam Province. A "Sparrow Hawk" was dispatched to provide security until the helicopter could be retrieved. While securing a perimeter the Marines came under fire from a nearby village which they assaulted and cleared then sized the high ground. With the CH-46 extracted, the Marines were joined by an addition platoon and while clearing the area engaged in a brief fire fight before the hostilities ceased for the night.
