Almeta Abbott
Almeta Abbett, 94, of Newark, passed away Thursday, Mar. 13, 1975, at 2:45 p.m. in a hospital in Kankakee, Ill., where she had been a patient for four weeks.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Mar. 15, at 3 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Edina, with Rev. Mike Coombs officiating. Burial was in the Newark Cemetery. Pallbearers were Reed Sharp, Junior Johnston, Charles Gonnerman, Paul Baldwin Abbett, John O'Neil and Carl Porter.
Mrs. Abbett had made her home with a daughter in Kankakee for the past five years. She was born Nov. 27, 1880, in Edina, Mo., the daughter of Robert Frances Pickering Bledsoe. On Jan. 1, 1900, she was married to William Smith Abbett in Edina, and he passed away Feb. 16, 1937.
Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Harold (Opal) Davis of Cedar Rapids, Ia., and Mrs. Fairel Siemering of Kankakee, Ill.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Jessie and Nacy Bledsoe, Mrs. Ella Cullison, Mrs. Oma Elick, Mrs. Anna Porter, and four brothers, John, Andrew, Frank and Charles Bledsoe.
In her earlier years she had lived in Edina and Baring, but most of her life had been spent in the Newark community. She was a member of the Christian Church.
