Columbus, GA- Louie Gilliam Abney, 84, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at his home.
Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon, Monday December 2, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Louie was born December 26, 1928 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Louie B. and Jessie T. Abney of Columbus. He was born and raised in Columbus, and was a 1949 graduate of Jordan Vocational High School. He married Edna Mae Abney on April 7, 1950 and had two sons Davie and Louie. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served early in his life. In 1960 he earned his Surveying and Civil Engineering License in GA where he practiced land surveying and engineering in Columbus for over 50 years. Louie also served as a project manager and estimator for many local construction and engineering companies later in his life.
Louie was the loving husband of Edna Abney for 60 years and a loving, dedicated father to David and Louie Abney. He was the best father, grandfather, and great-grandfather anyone could hope for. Louie was very dedicated to his family where he taught what it meant to be a man and the importance of taking care of the family God has entrusted you with. Louie enjoyed spending time with his family along with restoring old antique guns outside under his carport. He suffered from a lengthy illness the last few years of his life, but suffered more from a broken heart losing his wife Edna on June 1st 2010. Louie spoke frequently of his deep desire to be reacquainted with his wife and on November 27th he got his last wish. His loss will leave a void with the family that will not be filled until the day they are all together again. His suffering is over and he is now united with our creator and his loving wife.
Survivors include his two children; David (Charlotte), and Louie (Carla) of Columbus, GA, five grandchildren; Joseph, Louie, Jeremy, Colt, Amber, eight great-grandchildren, seven nephews and three nieces.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909.
