Lester F. Strickland Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Lester Franklin Strickland Jr., 75, of Mechanicsville and formerly of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord Feb. 7, 2009. Affectionately known as "Sammy," he was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Pearl Strickland and one sister, Geraldine Owens and is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Georgie Anne Strickland (Arnett); one son, Lester Strickland III (Frank) of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Robyn Fulwider and her husband William of Franklin, Tenn., and Lori Costa and her husband Mike of West Chester, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jennifer West, Sarah Strickland, Christopher Fulwider, Amy Adams, Mary Beth Strickland, Stephanie Holmes and James Kellites; four step grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Morgan and Melissa Costa; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Combs, Joseph Adams and Stella Gaskins; one brother, Lawrence Strickland; two sisters, Evelyn Carson and Cynthia Massengill; and a host of other devoted family members and friends. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth and retired from a career in sales and marketing. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fairmount Christian Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family requests memorial donations be made to Fairmount Christian Church Building Fund, 6502 Creighton Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111
