Mrs. Emma Jane Smith, 71, widow of Chalmer Smith, passed away at 7 o'clock last Friday evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hess. Death was caused by a stroke suffered nearly four weeks ago, although she had been bedfast since last August due to a broken hip.

Mrs. Smith was born at Beard in 1871, the daughter of George and Minerva (Poundstone) Daggy. In 1894 she married Chalmer I. Smith, who died in 1928.

Besides Mrs. Hess, another daughter, Mrs. Ethel Lecklitner of Sheridan; a brother, Willard Daggy of Thorntown, and a sister, Mrs. Ada Strain of Delphi, survive.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. P. J. Hamilton at the Kleinsmith funeral home Monday afternoon. Burial was in the Providence cemetery. Pallbearers were R. C. Fickle, C. V. Fickle, J. W. Williams, J.W. Grice, S. C. Smithers and J. E. Stump. Mrs. N. A. Burkhalter was the soloist.
