She was born on June 25, 1932, in Prairie du Chien, and was the daughter of Leonard and Rose (Forst) Enke. Ann left home at age 12 to get a high school diploma. She continued schooling in Prairie du Chien and graduated at age 16. She left for Madison at age 18, where she had jobs with Bordens and Farmers Mutual Insurance. She was united in marriage to Donald L.Freidel on Nov. 8, 1952. She worked at the Sun Prairie School Systems for many years and was a teacher's aide at the public schools. Ann and Don ran Freidel Builders and rental business. She was on the Sun Prairie BID committee. She was very active at Sacred Hearts Church and School. Ann and her husband, Don, loved to travel, shop, and spend holidays with family.
Survivors include a son, Mark (Rose) Freidel of Sun Prairie; a daughter, Gretchen (Franklin) Shurtliff of Germantown; three grandchildren, Cody, Alexa and Mikalya Freidel of Sun Prairie; a sister, Bernice (Paul) Bariola of Fitchburg; many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Vicki (Jane Duncan) Freidel of LaCrosse. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald L.; a sister, Adeline Check; and a grandson, Casey Freidel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Interment will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, from 2:30 p.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Friday.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts School Endowment Fund. A special thanks to Agrace HospiceCare and Lighthouse of Sun Prairie.
