Lewis Carson Hopper, age 87 of Brandon, MS, passed away Friday Nov. 29, 2013 at his home in Brandon. Visitation will be held Sun. Dec. 1, 2013 from 2pm-4pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 10am Mon. Dec. 2, 2013 at the funeral home with burial in the Brandon Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.
Mr. Hopper was born in Fonthill, Kentucky July 30, 1926. His parents were Lucy and Estill Hopper. He was a World War II veteran of the Pacific Theatre. He returned home from the war and enrolled in Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. He graduated from Bowling Green Business College, which later became Western Kentucky. He met and married Barbara McRae who he was married to for sixty years. They moved to Jackson in 1963 where he embarked on a successful broadcasting career beginning with Mclendon Broadcasting and culminating with his management and owner ship of WAPT TV16. Along with partner he started WLIN FM and was a partner and key director of two start up television properties WVSB, West Point and WXXV, Gulport. He was an active member in First United Methodist Church, Brandon, where he was a teacher and member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class as well as participating in numerous mission related activities.
Mr. Hopper was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy and Estill Hopper; brothers, Jarvis Estill Hopper and Edwin Royce Hopper; sisters, Martha Hopper, Patricia Neathery and Doris Wade.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Hopper of Brandon; sons, Richard McRae Hopper and wife Donna of Starkville and David Carson Hopper and wife Tammy of Brandon; grandchildren, Patricia and Caleb Butts, Richard McRae Hopper Junior, Molly Rebecca Hopper, Bailey and John Kirkland, David Carson Hopper III and John Lewis Miller Hopper; great grandchildren, Adaline Marion Hopper, Jackson David Kirkland and Abigal Betty Butts; brother, David Cameron Hopper of Russell Springs, Kentucky and Marion Hopper and wife Chris of Apopka, Florida; sister, Betty Lunsford and husband Dale of Russell Springs, Kentucky and numerous nieces and nephews.
