Mercedes Jones, 93, of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 17, 1920, at Coffeyville to Paul and Florence (Everett) Cosler. Mercedes grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College.

Mercedes was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy Waves.

On July 27, 1946, she married Melvin L. Jones at Oswego, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Her husband preceded her in death on November 1, 1962.

For many years Mercedes was employed as Office Manager at Sherwin-Williams Smelter, until retiring. She also worked in the U.S.D. #445 Board Office for a time. After retiring she was a Salvation Army volunteer, and tour guide at the Brown Mansion for several years.

Mercedes was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville. She enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, and was a member of a women's bowling league for many years, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandson, Zachary.

Survivors include one son, Michael Jones and wife Karen of Coffeyville; and one grandson, Zachary Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Pauline E. Wallace.

Following Mercedes' wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service celebrating her life will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013, at Restlawn Memorial Park with Pastor Gordon Willhite of the First Christian Church officiating.

Friends may sign the register book on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
