Franklin - John Raymond Higgins passed away peacefully on June 15, 2013 at Angel Hospital in Franklin, NC; just three weeks shy of his 92nd birthday.

John Higgins was born on July 6, 1921 to John H. & Gertie Higgins in Ladysmith WI. They later moved to Superior, WI where he attended school and graduated from Superior Central High School. John was a WW II Air Force veteran who served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. On May 3, 1947 he married Mary Jane Russom, the love of his life for over 66 years. In 1957 they purchased the Four Corners Store outside of Superior WI, and owned the store until 1973. Prior to selling the store they built Pattison Park Golf Course. John and Mary Jane ran the golf course until 1982, when they retired to Florida. They moved to Franklin, NC in 1990. They enjoyed many years of golf, traveling in their RV, and their family and friends. John enjoyed woodworking, golfing, traveling, cribbage, and his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jane; two daughters, Rosemary Disbrow, Debbie (John) Demulling and son, J. Douglas (Geronica) Higgins; one sister, Jeanne Peterson; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger A. Higgins.

John was a member of the Hew Hope Presbyterian Church, Men's Golf League Pattison Park Golf Course, Elk Lodge and a member of the Hickory Knoll Methodist Church.

John was a gentle, kind soul who was greatly loved. He will be remembered and missed by all.
Funeral services for John Higgins will be 11:00 A.M. Monday June 17, 2013 at the Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Paul Sears under the direction of Bryant Grant Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, WI at a later date.
