James Wayne Puhr was born at Valley City May 16, 1939, moving with his parents to Ellendale in 1946. He was a 1958 graduate of Ellendale High School, where he was a member of the track team for two years, and took part in the senior speech program. He played American Legion baseball for three years and with the Ellendale Tigers' team for four years.
During the summers of 1959 and 1960, he was employed at Portland Ore., retuning to Ellendale after being seriously injured in an automobile accident there in November 1960. He had undergone kidney surgery at University hospital in Minneapolis last February and again in July.
Jim had been a delegate to Boys' State, was a member of the Explorer Scouts, having served as patrol leader, and of St Helena's Catholic church.
In addition to his parents, he leaves one sister, Janice, a senior at Ellendale High School; one grandmother, Mrs Mary Puhr of Valley City; seven uncles, six aunts and 12 cousins.
