William M Vinson was the son of Cassandra Susan Vinson (maiden name unknown) and an unknown father. His four wives were:

Rebecca Elizabeth "Becky" Smith Watson, daughter of Wilkin Smith and Martha Susan "Patsy" Broadhead, married on 15 Jan 1866 in Clarke County, Mississippi. Becky was a cousin of his first wife and the widow of G Allen Watson who died in the war.

MeDora Ellington "Dora" Hudson, daughter of Tillman Hudson and Edna Hayden, married on 4 Jan 1892 in Clarke County, Mississippi. Dora had previously been married to H A Hyslop/Heslieu, Alexander T Quates and John A Lott. William divorced her on 20 Oct 1906 claiming she and her son had been mistreating him.
