He was born November 17, 1930 in Eagleville, the son of Loid and Pearl (Hubbard) Huit.
On December 23, 1950, he married Marilyn Burton in Yuma, Ariz. She survives at the home.
Gene was a crew leader for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He retired from MoDot in 1989 after 30 years of employment. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagleville.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Brad Huit, Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Sandy Gibson and husband, Randy, Lamoni, Ia., Debbie Wells and husband, Bob, St. Joseph, Mo., and Becky Hendren and husband, John, Corydon, Ia.; sister, Virginia Hale and husband, LeeRoy, Blythedale; brother, Paul Huit and wife, Jean, Eagleville; sister-in-law, Beatrice Huitt, Bethany; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Huitt; two sisters, Thelma Johnston and Hazel Ury; granddaughter, Janette Gibson.
Graveside services and burial were Sunday, July 17th at the Masonic Cemetery, Eagleville.
