John A. Betty married Martha Tarbutton in Madison Co., TN on November 30, 1830 (witnessed by Thos. Garland). It has been found where son, Wesley, once stated he was the 7th of 10 children born to John and Martha Betty. At this point, only the names of eight have been discovered and are named above.

The 1840 US Census shows the family living in Madison Co., TN with 2 males under 5 (James and William), 1 age 5-9 (Joseph), and one female (Mary) under 5. The family farms.

The 1850 US Census shows the family still farming in Madison Co., TN. John (48), Martha (40, Joseph (18), Mary J (16), James A (14), William H (11), plus new children John (8), Wesley (6), Hannah (4) and Wyatt (1).

It is known that John A. Betty died in 1855 at the age of 51. Place of burial is Old Rocky Springs Cemetery, south of Jackson, Madison Co., Tennessee

In the Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Northeast Arkansas, Goodspeed Publishers, 1869 - Early Settlers-Private and Family Records, page 579, an article on son Wesley T. Beatty, states the following about his parents:

"W.T. Beatty was born in Madison County, Tenn., in 1844 and is the seventh of ten children born to John and Martha A. Beatty, who were born in the "Old North State." They removed to Madison County, Tenn., at an early day, and here the father opened up a good farm, on which he resided until his death, in 1854, his excellent wife passing from life in 1865. John Beatty was of English decent, was a Democrat in politics, and a Mason, and held office in this order." .[1]
