During the Civil War, Vincent Agnel was a Second Lieutenant with the Ninth New York Heavy Artillery. He accompanied General Samuel Beckley Holabird to New Orleans in the Winter of 1862 as his private secretary. LT Agnel died the following Spring of Typhoid Fever (Source: The Ninth New York Heavy Artillery, 1899, by Alfred Seelye Roe).
