Mattie Mae was born in Inverness Florida on August 26, 1914, daughter of the late John James and Emma Georgia Cooper. She passed away on November 23, 2013 in Jacksonville. She was the youngest of seven children. Mattie Mae graduated from Citrus County High School, was a cheerleader and on the staff of the first "Whirlwind", the school newspaper. In 1933, Mattie Mae was selected to be the first "Miss Citrus County". She married Nulin B. Dixon in 1938 and was widowed in 1957. She was a Cub Scout "Den Mother", an officer of the Inverness Woman's Club, a sponsor of the Little Woman's Club and the Inverness Junior Woman's Club, a P.T.A. Officer, a charter member (and a real grand-daughter) of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a former member of the Inverness Golf and Country Club. In 1972, Mattie Mae retired from the B&W Rexall Drug Store Pharmacy Department and married George Pipgras.
She was predeceased by her first and second husbands, her son Nulin B Dixon, her brothers, LeGrand, Rhodas, Sam, Wallace and Gordon, her sister, Thelma, her nephews, Ebbert Castel and John W. Cooper and her niece, Louise C. Kelly. She is survived by her son Thomas C. Dixon (Jane) of Jacksonville, her granddaughter, Samantha Elizabeth Eversole (Britt) and two great grandchildren, Charlotte and Sebastian all of Princeton, New Jersey, the family of the late Ebbert Castel (Frances, Vikki (Cleve) Croft, Debbie Shelton) of Inverness, Jimmy Cooper and family of Dade City, Charles Cooper (Carolyn) of Dunedin, Elizabeth Cooper Hefley and family of Apache Shores, and the family of Louise C.
