Bruce McDonald Burkhart was one of eight children born to Claiborne Barbur (1871-1927) and Lettie Belle (Walker) Burkhart (1879-1961) of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the eldest of six sons and two daughters, two of whom died early in life. Bruce was born in May, 1895 at the family home in Knoxville. The information I learned about his family came from sources that didn't include the U. S. Censuses as I could find nothing on his family between 1910 and 1930, except thru relatives as noted in Bruce's father's memorial. The family was living on a farm in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, when the 1900 Census was taken. His father was paying rent on the farm, doing his best to support his family. Bruce joined the Army after school, attending Corps School, training to become an officer, I believe. He died from Influenza and bronchial pneumonia on November 5th, 1918, just six days before the end of World War I. He was originally buried in France but was later returned to the United States in 1921 to be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
Thank you to John Caldwell, FAG#48987552 for providing the information regarding my cousin's death.
Thank you also to the Association Les Americans de La Gondrecourt Area for providing Pvt. Burkhart's place of death and original burial place as Memorial Day draws near. It has been added to this brave man's memorial. May he Rest In Eternal Peace with his family in Heaven.

Bruce MacDonald Burkhart is my Maternal 4th cousin, once removed.
