Mary Elizabeth Irwin was born August 25, 1863 in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The daughter of Samuel Irwin (1838-1897) and Jane McCandless (1843-1909). She was reared on her father’s farm in Butler County. She married Judson Grant McKissick (1861-1935) on January 26, 1887 in Butler, Butler County Pennsylvania. To their union were born twelve children.:
