When my mother was a child in McDermott, Ohio, beside the house they lived in was a county store called Motes Store. Owned and operated by Joseph "Joe" Motes.
About 1962 Dale Marcum and Mike Hubbert, both about the age of 6 accidentally caught the store on fire. The store burned to the ground. There was just rubble left. A short time later Joe died at about the age of 90.
Jump forward to the year 2010, the place where the store had once stood was being clean up and the ground excavated. As this was being done a headstone is found. The name on the headstone Dora Marcum with her birth date and death date.
Dora died in 1926, her husband lived until 1964. Years after he died, one of their daughters bought a headstone for both of them.In 1972 when her husband died, she bought headstones for her and her husband and for her mother and father.
