Savannah Grindstaff Smith, age 81, of Marion, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family by her side.
Savannah was born in Bakersville, NC on June 2nd, 1932 and was one of eleven children to the late Squibb and Bunia Grindstaff of Bakersville. She was also preceded in death by three loving husbands: the late Robert N. Smith, Sr., Rev. William "Bill" Harris and J.R. Smith; five sisters, three brothers and a son-in-law, Joseph A. Hartwell, Sr.
She was a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church in Marion and was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved the Lord, gardening and having flowers.
Surviving are her children: Shirley Vaughan and husband, Danny, of Bluefield, WV, Roberta Hartwell of the home, Robert N. Smith, Jr. Of Marion, Ricky L. Smith and wife, Susan of Marion and Angie Thomas and husband, Chris, of Old Fort. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, November 25th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Bruce Ward and Rev. Cy Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
