George was the son of Abisha Alloway and Adaline Frances (Chambers) Alloway. George's mother died when he was a small child before his father's remarriage to Frances Sarah Reed in 1855. George's father died in 1863 when George was 11 years old. His stepmother died in 1905. In the 1880 US Federal Census George was living as a hired hand on a farm in La Salle, Illinois, in the household of Thomas Coffey. On January 23, 1884, in La Salle County, George married Katherine Bergin. George and Katherine had 5 known daughters: Mary, Katherine, Cora Anne, Sadie V. and Gertrude M. Alloway, and one son, George Arthur Alloway. By 1910, the family had moved from La Salle to Peoria, Illinois. George died in Peoria on June 28, 1931 at his home, 705 N. Jefferson Avenue, from heat prostration during an unprecedented heat wave reported in local and national newspapers. His wife, Katherine, died in 1941. George and Katherine are buried side by side in Saint Marys Cemetery.
