John and Elizabeth Burgess Gourley were the parents of seven children of which Mary was the fourth born. Mary and William were first cousins but permitted to marry as being 'righteous persons' in Bucks County in 1769. Mary and William were finally received into the Goose Creek Monthly Meeting in 1790 in Virginia from Wrightstown Monthly Meeting in Pennsylvania. Mary is not mentioned in her husband's will of 1826 and the obvious reason is her death six years earlier.
