Dr. Brewster then worked as a medical intern at the Massachusetts General Hospital; he was a house pupil on the East Surgical Service under the tutelage of Dr. Maurice Howe Richardson. He served as a member on the hospital's staff from 1900 to 1926.
During that time, Dr. Brewster held such titles as Surgeon to Out-Patients (gynecology), Assistant Visiting Surgeon, and finally Visiting Surgeon. It was upon his retirement that he was named to the MGH Board of Consultation, and he became an honorary surgeon in 1937.
Dr. Brewster also had an appointment as an associate in surgery from 1917 to 1927 at Harvard Medical School.
