John A. Dirksen, aged 77 years, Ft. Loramie, R.R. 1, president of the McLean Township (Shelby County) Board of Trustees and a prominent area retired farmer, died at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday from the effects of a stroke suffered Oct 27.
Death came to Mr. Dirksen on the farm where he was born, three miles southwest of Minster on the Dirksen-Brandewie Road.
Mr. Dirksen was first elected a township trustee in 1942 and served on the board continuously for 20 years. He was a member of St. Augustine's church in Minster and a member of the Holy Name and the St. Augustine Orphan Societies of the church.
He was born Feb 9, 1885. His parents were Bernard and Mary Horstman Dirksen. Surviving him are his wife, the former Mary Meyer, a daughter, Mrs. Jerome (Mary Ann) Seger of Osgood; four sons, Henry of Frenchtown, Albert of Chickasaw, Herman of New Bremen, and John Jr. at home. There are 32 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Hilgefort of Ft. Loramie and Mrs. Katherine Bergman of Egypt.
Solemn Requiem High Mass will be sung at St. Augustine's church at 9 a.m. Friday with the Rev. William Meyer as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is the Hogenkamp Funeral Home and friends may call at any time until the services.
