James J. Allen
James J. Allen died at the home of his son, Erastus Allen, at Middlefield, Tuesday, November 30, 1915, at 4 p.m. On the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day he was stricken with a very severe shock from which he never rallied. He was born in Lower Mayford, England, June 26, 1831, and was the oldest of a family of eight children. In 1837 he came with his parents to this country, the family settling near Roseboom. November 9, 1854, he married Lavantia Brown, who died july 31, 1904. He had been a resident of Middlefield for fifty-nine years, having been engaged in the blacksmith business the greater part of that time. Besides the son above mentioned, he is survived by three brothers, Benjamin G. Allen of Afton, Samuel Allen of Sidney and Fred Allen of Middlefield, and two granddaugthers, Mrs. Floyd T. Pitts and Miss Marjorie C. Allen, both of Middlefield. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the Rev. F.A. mateson will officiate. Internment will be made in the Middlefield cemetery. - Our Middlefield Reporter.
