Born June 21, 1945 in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Raymond and Marie (Chastain) McFarlan.
He married Sandy Neal on May 7, 1981; and she survives. He was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1964. He was employed at NSWC Crane as a Project Technician, where he retired in 2011. He continued working for 2 years for SAIC. He was also an EMT for Dunn Hospital Ambulance Service for over 20 years, and was the Primary EMS Instructor. He was past Chief of the Huron Volunteer Fire Dept. in the mid 1970's before becoming a member of the Shawswick Volunteer Fire Dept., as their Medical Officer, starting in June 2003. He was of the Nazarene faith. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge F & AM and the 32nd degree Mason. He was Firefighter of the Year, 2010. He loved fishing, camping, and restoring John Deere tractors.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy, of Bedford; three sons, James Edward McFarlan and wife Natalie, of Bedford, Patrick Spaulding, of Bedford, and Christopher McFarlan, of Bloomington; two daughters, Jamie Kelley, of Tampa, FL, and Tammy Marcin, of North Carolina; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce McFarlan, of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Brother Doyle Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a memorial service with the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter's Assoc. at 7 p.m. and there will be Masonic Rites held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday.
