20 years old, Kenneth was stationed with the Army in Khanh Hoa, Viet Nam and would have been home for his 21st birthday. But he became ill on New Year's Day and was flown to Tokyo for medical treatment. He died 2 days before his birthday of a rare type of meningitis.

He was a Specialist Four (SPEC4), 304th Supply and Service Company, 88th S&S Battalion, U.S. Army Support Command (Qui Nhon), 1st Logistical Command, US Army Vietnam (USARV), U.S. Army; Vietnam War

Funeral services were held in San Jose, California. In his memory, a scholarship was created at the high school from which he graduated in 1968.
