Joe is survived by his wife, Cecilia J. Cowsert of South Bend, IN; two daughters, Jenny Cowsert of South Bend, IN and Jil (Kyle) Schori of Mishawaka, IN; granddaughter, Leah Cowsert; three stepsons, Jeffrey Cartwright of Mishawaka, IN, Robert (Cindy) Cartwright of Granger, IN and Michael Cartwright of Mishawaka, IN; brothers, Robert (Jean) Cowsert, Frank Cowsert, Chuck (Mary) Cowsert and Richard (Paula) Cowsert; six step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Junette Pryer, Bertha L. Coleman and Shirlee M. Boone and brothers, Jack L. Cowsert, Michael Cowsert and Donny Cowsert.
Joe was a lifelong resident. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He retired as a machinist at Dodge Manufacturing after thirty years of service. Joe was an avid fan of Notre Dame, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend, IN. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend is assisting the family with arrangements.
