Arsene Kay Burton, 76, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Adkison and Matt VerMeer will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
Mrs. Burton was born on February 23, 1937 in Danville, IL the daughter of Wendell and Viola Briggs Adsit. She married Dale Forrest Burton M.D. on June 13, 1959 in Wellington, IL. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1992.
Survivors include three sons and their families, Curtis Burton M.D. and wife Debra of Hannibal, MO, Kristen Craighead (Andrew), Jacqueline Chavez (Anthony), Philip Burton and Louis Burton; Bryon Burton of Tucson, AZ, Thomas Burton; Howard Burton and wife, Shelly, of Hannibal, MO, Brooke Burton, Blair Burton and Brynn Burton.
Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Rodney Forrest Burton, one sister, Janis Sidler and one brother, Samuel Adsit.
Arsene was a graduate of Wellington High School. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Music from Wesleyan University, Bloomington, IL . She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church, she was active in the Adult Choir, Handbell Choir, taught Sunday School and served in other divisions within the church. Arsene was a past president and board member of F.A.C.T., member and ambassador for the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce, where she received the Pacesetter award in 2007. She was a member of Hannibal Arts Council, Hannibal Community Concert Association, R.S.V.P., Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary, she chaired the Continuing Education Scholarship Committee. A member of Evening Etude, where she chaired the 2005 convention held in Hannibal. A loyal supporter of Hannibal-LaGrange University, she was instrumental in the Hannibal-LaGrange University Connectors and Capital Campaign Committee for the Roland Fine Arts Center. Member of the Mark Twain Men's Chorale and Ladies Ensemble and involved with the city of Hannibal with the Hannibal Parks Trail project.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Burton, Howard Burton, Bryon Burton, Louis Burton, Philip Burton and Thomas Burton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Brooke Burton, Blair Burton, Brynn Burton, Kristen Craighead and Jacqueline Chavez
