Our beloved John Payne Detamore, 65, passed away of cancer October 12, 2000 in Portland, Oregon.

Born Sept 5, 1935 in Dayton, OH the son of John Leslie and Barbara Ann Payne Detamore. He married the late Ann Marie Petersen. They divorced. He married R. Carole (Dorius) Allison Dec 20, 1971, in Evanston, WY. Raised and educated in Dayton, OH until his family moved to Ogden, UT his senior year. Graduated from Ogden High School. Worked at St. Benedicts Hospital.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England in the Communications field. Upon completion of enlistment he started his long civilian Air Force career at Hill Air Force Base, UT first continuing in the communications area, then inventory management specialist, then to logistics management specialist. Worked at Wright Patterson AFB 1977-1978. Returned to Hill AFB. While working in the foreign military sales area, Directorate of Material Mgmt, Hill AFB, he traveled to many different countries and received letters of commendation from various governments throughout the world.

In 1984 he accepted a promotion to the Ballistics Missile Office, Norton AFB, CA where he worked until his federal retirement in 1988. He received many acknowledgements throughout his Air Force career including three Sustained Superior Performance Awards.

He and his wife Carole lived in Ogden, Clearfield and Salt Lake City, UT; Fairborn, OH; Colton, CA for many years with a second home in Clackamas, OR (Colton and Clackamas to present time).

Surviving are his wife, Carole; son, Johnny Les (Jill) Detamore; four granddaughters of Clearfield; four stepchildren from his prior marriage; aunt, cousins, brother-in-law and family.

The family extends appreciation to the Portland Adventist medical staff.

On Sunday, October 22, 2000 a private memorial mass was held by Father Baldwin Shea and Father Allen Hohl, Abbey of the Holy Trinity, Huntsville, UT. Graveside dedication service to be held Oct 24, 2000, 1 p.m., LDS Bishop Richard Waite officiating, at the place of final rest, Salt lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, UT.
