Abel G. Cardenas passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013. He was 81 years old. Abel was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Ballinger, Texas. He was a master carpenter and homebuilder who built many houses in San Angelo and around West Texas. He was the second of 10 children.

He is survived by his wife, Francisca Cardenas; and his children, Lydia Dillard, Abel Cardenas Jr., Noel Cardenas, Steven Cardenas, Barbara Cadbois, Jacob Cardenas and Gabriela Gomez. Abel is also survived by eight siblings; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a special grandson, Abel T. Cardenas. He was preceded in death by his first wife of six children, Maria Guevara Cardenas; daughter Laura Cardenas Kelly; and grandson Rafael Cardenas.

Abel was a member of Templo de Alabanza for years and his pastor was Ignacio Hernandez. The family would like to thank the dialysis staff and the staff of Interim Hospice for their wonderful care. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home with burial following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
