Miss Irene McCandlas Walker, 105, died Tuesday.
Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Bailey and Matilda Wilson Walker.
Miss Walker owned and operated a millinery shop in the Arcade building for many years, retiring at the age of 96. She was a widely recognized for talents and created original designs for the First Ladies of South Carilina.
She was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are nieces, Mrs. Laura Mae Cooper of Columbia, Mrs. Myrtle Paige of Dalzell, Mrs. Frances Johnson and Mrs. Irene Smith of Inverness, Fla.; and nephews, W. T. Walker of Columbia, Joe Walker of Alexandria, Va. and Cmdr. Richard O. Young of Pennsylvania.
Services for Miss Walker will be held at 2 p.m. today,(Thursday 5 May 1983) Elmwood Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth Webb.
