John married Isabella J. Speirs, better known by her stage name, “Scotch Maggie” on 09/30/1906 at Hennepin County, Minnesota. The two lived in an annex to a stable or “house market,” as it was called, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They also owned and operated the Rising Sun Café. In 1912, a 23-year old eye witness named Hubert Jacobs claimed he was eating in the restaurant when he saw Isabella arguing in the back of the café with the restaurant's cook, Fred Wescott, when he was allegedly stabbed by Isabella. The police arrested Getsman, but their case against her fell apart when their only witness mysteriously disappeared.
John later married Frances (Wakefield) Livingston from Cornell, Wisconsin.
There is no marker on John's grave. The flowers shown in the photograph at right are on John's grave, which is Section 13, Tier 209, Space 49, located one space south of John Nessman's grave.∼Minneapolis Daily Star 10 Jun 1927 pg 23
