OBITUARY DORSEY
Thomas William Dorsey, son of Andrew J. and Amanda Gibson Dorsey, was born in Ohio on the 6th of May, 1854, and passed away into his Heavenly reward on January 22, 1929, in St. Joseph's hospital, Keokuk, Iowa, at the good age of 74 years, 8 months and 16 days.
In the early fifties his parents came from Ohio and settled in Clark county, Mo. Mr. Dorsey lived all his life in this part of the state. In his early life he found peace of soul by faith in Jesus Christ at Mt. Carmel church and united with the New Woodville Baptist church, of which faith he remained consistent throughout his entire life. He served as deacon of the New Woodville church for a number of years and later served in the same capacity in the Baptist church of Medill.
He was united in marriage to Emily Virginia Harris on September 8, 1880. To this union were born seven children. Of these two children, Mrs. Jessie Saar and Washington Winfield and his loving companion preceded him in death.
Mr. Dorsey was esteemed by all who knew him as an exemplary Christian, true citizen and above all a loving and kind father.
He leaves to mourn his going the following children: Andrew T. of Ashton; Leo H. of Kahoka: Arthur R. of Wyaconda; Mrs. Vassie M. Hayden of Wyaconda; Mrs. Vivian N. Calvert of Revere, and five grandchildren. Also, two sisters and four brothers, namely, Mrs. Jennie Stephen of Kahoka, Mrs. Lulu Warne of Keokuk, Iowa, John of Arbela, Luther of Revere, Joseph of Gorin, and Elbert of Pasco, Wash. To these may be added a great host of near relatives and intimate friends. May the Word of Hope be comfort and consolation to all these bereft ones.
The funeral services were held at the New Woodville Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Geo. C. Jurrens of Wyaconda, on Thursday afternoon, January 24th, in the presence of a large attendance. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. The following men acted as pallbearers: George Arnold, Len Kerner, Art Armitage, Martin Edelen, Linn Hays, and John Woodruff.
