Clarice Eliot "Monkey" Moore Senter, 85, died at her home in Bristol, Tenn., on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. She was born in Bristol, Virginia on August 25, 1928, the daughter of Ellen Sturgis and Paul Rexford "Pete" Moore. "Monkey" as she was affectionately called by all who knew her, attended public schools and was a 1945 graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School. She maintained a lifelong friendship with classmates and looked forward to annual reunions. Monkey received degrees from Harcum Junior College, Pennsylvania and from the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. On July 31, 1954, Clarice Moore and L. Dudley Senter Jr. were married at Central Presbyterian Church and soon after made their home at Pinecrest. Mr. Senter died in 1996. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp in World War II and was a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was the head of the Quality Control Department with Raytheon Corporation in Bristol and retired in 1992. As owner of Pete Moore Antiques and Appliances in Bristol, Monkey enjoyed fifty years in her well-known and successful business. She was vivacious and popular, she never met a stranger and she was always a loyal and generous friend to people of all ages. The light and joy of her life was her twelve year old granddaughter, Ginny. They spent many hours together playing and doing art projects. She was always so proud of Ginny's school and equestrian honors. She also loved her son, Dudley. It gave her great pride to see him become such a caring, kind and generous man. She was also very proud that he built a successful law practice and was well respected in the law community. Monkey had many interests, but she put the care of all animals before her other hobbies, especially her beloved English Setters. Being interested in history and genealogy, Monkey was a member of the Mayflower Descendants. She was also a member of the Fort Chiswell Chapter, of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Junior League of Bristol, and a 79 year member of the Central Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, L. Dudley Senter III and his wife, Suzanne Swift Senter; granddaughter, Virginia Eliot Senter; brother-in-law, Jack Arnold; nephew, Jim Arnold; great-nieces, Alicia Arnold Patrick and Tessa Arnold, all of Bristol. She is also survived by cousins, Virginia Moser of Tyler, Texas, and Lee Albertson of Mesa, Ariz. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2:30 p.m. with the funeral service to follow, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Va. Officials will be dear family friend, the Rev. Hans Kistner, Santa Barbara, Calif. and the Reverend Mike Chamberlain of Bristol, Va. There will be a private burial service at the family gravesite in Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tenn., following the church service. Pallbearers will be Jim Arnold, Jim Warren, Dave Arnold, Tom Carter, Bill Thomas, Ilya Berenshteyn and Clay Montgomery. The family would like to thank Monkey's wonderful caregivers from Angel by Your Side - Elizabeth, Nikki, Stevie, Elizabeth and Donnita.
