Info from Marsha Reynolds showing me evidence he was Jeff and Mary's son, since he stuck near them thru life:
"On the 1850 census, Washington Grose is with the McClung family in Nicholas County as a laborer, age 22, so that doesn't help much.
In 1860, he is in Nicholas County with his wife, Rebecca J., and their four children. He is living next to Jefferson Grose and his second wife, Elizabeth Grose.
In 1870, "Washington Grose" is in Jefferson, Nicholas, WV with his wife, Rebecca J., and their eight children. Again, he is living next to Jefferson and Elizabeth Grose.
In 1880, "George W. Grose" is in Jefferson, Nicholas, WV with his wife, Rebecca J., and their four children. He is living next to Jefferson Grose and Elizabeth and their two adopted sons. On the other side of George and Rebecca is John A. Grose, who is (I think) his brother."

When George was 89 years old, he was a widower and living with his daughter, Janet Eliza Grose and her husband Blackburn Dotson. George was a farm laborer, working out.
They lived at Twenty-Mile Road, on 23 Apr 1910. I am not sure at what point George W. died, but I cannot find him on 1920 census at all.
